Ways to stay safe in social media

Social media dominates the world of the current young generation. They are born into a world where social media has become a prominent aspect in society, and it has influenced their life significantly. It is just natural that as the world of the internet develops, people find creative ways to connect with other people around the world. Starting with SixDegree.com, a space where people can set up a profile page, send messages within the network and create connections lists, social media has evolved tremendously over the decades. Some of the current popular social media platforms are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr and so much more. Someone can find numerous things when they sign into the app and many activities are also available there. It is how the way of communication and spreading information has transformed over the years. However, when someone shares most of their life story on social media, there will be risks that follow it, especially now that cyberattacks are more frequent. This article would tell you how to stay safe when using social media.

1 – Regularly clean your contacts

Whenever you make friends online, it may be someone you know in real life and it may be a stranger who you are friends with online. When you actively share your life on social media, you would want to regularly check those who follow your account and those you are following. There will probably be accounts that are fake or suspicious and you can unfollow them or unfriend them. If you have someone that had a bad past with you or someone who writes negative comments under your posts, then you would probably want to remove them as well. We can never know people who have malicious intentions towards us so keeping your contacts as safe as possible would be one of the ways you can protect yourself.

2 – Strong password

When you create a password, there is a reason why it is stated there whether that password is weak, medium or strong. This is so important to keep your account safe from hackers. If you don’t want anyone to hack into your account, please make your password strong because then it would be much harder for hackers to hack.

3 – Protect your identity

Any private information like your bank account, address, private phone number should never be shared on social media. You can share those in apps that are encrypted like Whatsapp but you should not share that one social media platform. Also, don’t share any information that can hint to your password. Experienced hackers or phishing sites will use that information against you if they gain access to it. They can even create fake accounts based on the information you shared online and catfish other innocent people. Also, depending on the person who messages you, if you share such important information, it can be leaked by them and your life could be in danger.

4 – Private your account

As for this, it is a choice for everyone and many refuse to make their account private because it would decrease the number of people who would follow them. However, my advice is if you want to protect your account by choosing the people allowed to follow your account, make it private. It would be more secure that way and you know the people who friended you are the people who you trust. There wouldn’t be some fake unknown accounts or suspicious accounts. Some of these accounts would actually bother you with nonsense messages and asking for private information which is why it is much safer if you private your account.

It can be dangerous in social media but if you are careful and limit the information shared on the platform, you are fine. It is easy and fun to access social media because nowadays people are surrounded by high-speed internet. If you are interested in changing to a high-speed internet, you can search for Time broadband package Malaysia because they are the top internet service provider currently.
